MEXICO CITY — PayJoy announced on Oct. 12 that it will acquire select strategic assets of Finia AI, a Mexico-focused fintech that uses artificial intelligence to underwrite financial products for micro-businesses. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The transaction is aimed at bringing Finia's proprietary machine-learning models and underwriting expertise into PayJoy's global platform. PayJoy is best known for financing smartphones and other consumer purchases; adding Finia's micro-business credit capabilities would support a broader product set and a different borrower profile.

PayJoy said eligible Finia customers will be able to apply for PayJoy loans and cards through a dedicated application portal. That is a customer transition arrangement rather than a statement that all Finia accounts or obligations are being transferred wholesale, and the companies have not published detailed terms for individual borrowers.

The deal illustrates the appeal of underwriting technology that can evaluate borrowers with limited formal credit histories, but the existence of an AI model does not by itself establish credit performance. PayJoy has not disclosed the acquired model's validation data, loss rates or the exact products it will power after integration, so the practical impact will depend on how the technology is deployed and governed.
