BERLIN — Berlin-based embedded-lending company finmid has raised a €17 million extension to its Series A, bringing total funding to €52 million, the company said this week. Big Pi Ventures and Mainset led the round, with existing investor Earlybird also participating.

Finmid provides infrastructure that lets software platforms offer financing to their own business customers under a white-label experience. Instead of asking a merchant to leave the platform it already uses, the platform can present working-capital, merchant-lending or asset-finance products inside its existing workflow while finmid supplies underwriting and funding connections behind the scenes.

The new capital is earmarked for asset-finance products, underwriting capabilities and a multi-source funding infrastructure. Finmid has also pointed to partnerships with Bolt for vehicle financing and Skroutz for merchant lending, illustrating the distribution model: the fintech reaches small businesses through platforms that already understand their transactions.

Embedded lending still has to solve the same credit problem as a conventional lender. A smooth application flow can improve access and conversion, but it does not remove losses, funding costs or the need to price risk correctly. Finmid has not published enough portfolio-performance data to assess those questions independently, so the round is best read as a bet on distribution and infrastructure rather than proof of lending outcomes.
