LONDON — PhotonPay announced on Oct. 16, 2026 that Photon Dance Fintech UK Limited received an Electronic Money Institution authorization from the Financial Conduct Authority. The firm is authorized under the Electronic Money Regulations 2011 with FCA firm reference number 1042732.

An EMI authorization allows a company to issue electronic money and provide regulated payment services within the scope of its permissions. For a cross-border payments company, the license can reduce reliance on third-party providers for wallet issuance, collections and payout infrastructure in the United Kingdom, while creating direct regulatory obligations around safeguarding, governance and operational resilience.

The authorization is not the same as a bank charter. Electronic-money institutions do not take deposits in the way banks do, and customer funds are subject to safeguarding rules rather than ordinary bank-deposit treatment. PhotonPay’s specific products and permissions still need to be evaluated against the FCA register and the terms presented to customers.

PhotonPay has not disclosed new transaction volumes or a detailed UK launch timetable alongside the authorization. The development is therefore a regulatory foundation for expansion, not evidence that every planned payment service is already available to every UK customer.
