Mural Raises $15 Million From Tether to Build Payment Infrastructure for AI Agents
The New York startup says its platform gives businesses and software agents a compliant system of record across bank and blockchain rails; the round brings reported total funding to $28 million.

NEW YORK — Mural announced on Oct. 20, 2026 that it raised a $15 million Series A led by Tether, with participation from North Island Ventures and existing investors. The New York fintech, founded in 2022 by former Palantir engineers Sinclair Toffa and Chris Fernandes, said the round brings its total funding to $28 million.
Mural builds infrastructure for businesses, fintechs and AI agents that manage payments, accounts and compliance across traditional banking and blockchain rails. The company describes its platform as a system of record for cross-border transactions, where organizations can track money movement, counterparties and controls in one place.
The AI-agent angle reflects a new payments problem: software can initiate more transactions than a human operations team can review manually, but automated action still needs permissions, audit trails and compliance checks. A platform that coordinates bank and blockchain activity therefore has to solve both execution and accountability.
Mural has not disclosed customer counts, transaction volume or a revenue breakdown. The funding is evidence of investor interest in infrastructure for programmable finance, not proof that AI agents can safely operate across every payment rail without human oversight.
