Bank of Ireland Deepens Stripe Partnership to Rework Backend Payments Infrastructure
The expanded collaboration will integrate Stripe's AI-driven payments tools directly into the bank's core operating systems, building on a relationship that already supports reconciliation for wealth subsidiary Davy, with a similar rollout planned for New Ireland Assurance.

DUBLIN — Bank of Ireland announced on Sept. 9 a deepened strategic partnership with Stripe aimed at accelerating the bank's digital transformation, with the collaboration focused on streamlining backend operations and integrating Stripe's AI-driven financial technology directly into the bank's core operating systems.
The expanded partnership builds on an existing relationship in which Stripe already supports payments reconciliation for Davy, Bank of Ireland's wealth management subsidiary. The bank has said a similar rollout is planned for New Ireland Assurance, another subsidiary within the Bank of Ireland Group, extending Stripe's role from a single business line into a shared piece of infrastructure across multiple parts of the group.
Bank of Ireland has framed the initiative around improving service speed and reliability across the group, though neither company has disclosed specific financial terms of the expanded deal or a timeline for when the New Ireland Assurance integration will go live. The move is part of a broader pattern of large, incumbent banks embedding infrastructure from payments-technology firms like Stripe directly into core banking systems rather than building or maintaining equivalent capabilities in-house.
For Stripe, the deepened relationship with an established retail and commercial bank represents an expansion beyond its traditional base of merchants and platforms into the backend operations of a bank group itself, an area where large financial institutions have historically been more likely to build proprietary systems or rely on specialized banking-technology vendors rather than a payments company primarily known for merchant-facing infrastructure.
